Initially planned to inhabit 23,000 residents in 1971, to a current population of 88,500, Ahwatukee (Ah-wa-too-kee) is one of the fastest growing areas in the Valley. Luckily for its residents, Ahwatukee still provides all of the charm of a small town, along with many great offerings for them to enjoy. With world-class golf courses, great gourmet food, miles of trails, and South Mountain Park (one of the nation’s largest city parks) there’s always something to do and see in this charming, low crime Phoenix suburb.

Ahwatukee also houses many large department stores, grocers, health food outlets, retail centers and specialty stores for its residents to enjoy. All of its offerings are just one of the many reasons why its residents seldom find themselves wandering from the area’s comforting embrace. The word Ahwatukee is Native American for “house of my dreams;” which is more than fitting for this triangular shaped area.

A large portion of Ahwatukee’s appeal can be attributed to the city’s strong educational system. Although we’re not trying to say that Ahwatukee residents spend all of their time hitting the books, but they certainly do enjoy sending their school aged children to some of the greatest schools in the state. These schools are part of the Kyrene School District (serving grades Pre-K through eighth) and the Tempe Union High School District (serving grades ninth through twelfth).

Housing options range from single family detached homes, townhomes, patio homes, condos and mini mansions (with a few mansions thrown in for good measure). Whether you want to live in a large or small subdivision with many community features, or an older ranch style home with a private pool, Ahwatukee has a home for you to rent, lease or purchase.
